I had some before Katrina hit, in New Orleans. And a friend gave me some more a few months ago. They are easy. They walked over from the neighor's yard on the fenceline and would bloom every year. Zone 9, very humid.

Hey, funny you should mention this plant! I just did some research on it because it's flower really compelled me to do so. Apparently you should treat this plant like a dahlia bulb: during the winter months, dig the cormbs up and keep them slighty moist (don't let them rot though!). Plant again after the chance of frost has lifted. This plant is allegedly tolerant of different soil types, but an evenly well drained, organic-rich one is best for nutrient absorption the following fall. Full sun to part shade is best. Good luck and enjoy this near-tropical sensation.
