No, I dont think it would. Even as a diehard scifi fan I couldn't suspend my belief long enough to watch the movie. That said, someone should remake the series with better graphics that are now available.
There are some cartoons and comics that just dont translate well to the big screen because the changes needed would alter the original premase to much. Starblazers is one fine example.
Robotech is another. The story of the original Macross Saga is simply to complex to be squeezed down to an hour thirty minute film.
