If you purchase the trailor connector from your local autoparts store. The wiring diagram for the trailor hook-up will be on or in the package.
The whole process is easy with a good kit.
You will need to get under the rear of the bed and look up near the taillight to locate the wiring harness. Follow the wiring directions for color code of wires.
The most common problem with trailor wiring is a poor ground connection. Drill a screw hole in the frame clean of paint and dirt and firmly connect your ground wire.

After you get the harness & connect the white-yellow-brown-& green wires YOU should put an EXTRA ground on the pig tail-Grounds are a main problem on trailer lights--ALSO if you have an [Automatic Transmission] make sure YOU install a EXTRA Transmission COOLER !White is ground-BROWN is running lights-green & yellow are right & left stop & turnsignal signal wires.

You should be able to buy a kit that has plugs that go to your taillight wires. Real easy to install.
Personally, though, I wouldn't bother. The Ranger will probably burn out the tranny when you pull a trailer with it. Get synthetic oil in the trans as soon as you can.

depends on the year of the ranger. 90 or newer they make a harness. Older you have to splice the wire.

My '98 has a plug in connector. You can get one at the Ford parts department.
