Was it the bastardization of the story by throwing a kid in the mix? Was it the gritty seriousness? Was it the fact that it dragged alot? I grew up on the Reeve films and this movie, while decent, left me wanting more. I also want closure on why a movie based on a theme park ride is killing this film.

Not for anything Athena, while your point is valid, Warner Brothers dropped 260 million dollars total for this project. I so wanted this movie to own. I so wanted it to work. But it's underperforming. It shouldn't just break even. WB wanted "Spider-Man numbers" and they didn't get it. Is all.

52 million is great for an opening weekend, but certainly not for one that cost 4 times that to put together.

It came out to close in time to other films like Car, Click, Pirates of the Caribean and The Devil Wears Prada. Too much competition.

I wouldn't say 52 million in a weekend and 141 million in 12 days is a flop...I'd say it's a blockbuster. Yes, the terrible Pirates sequel crushed it...but it crushed every other movie in history as well. After word gets out how terrible Dead Man's Chest is, it will slow down. Superman Returns was a decent movie, and to say it flopped with those numbers is absurd.

so far, Superman has made $108,091,711 in the U.S. Box Office. That doesn't include forgien markets.

It is too soon to say it floped.

I really liked the movie.

Brandon Routh played a great Superman and reminded me a lot of Christopher Reeves

Kevin Spacey played a better Lex Luthor than Gene Hackman.

Kate Bosworth was not a very good Lois Lane I thought Margot Kidder played her better.

all in all I thought the movie was very good. I thought Kevin played Lex much more ruthless like he is in the comic books.

It didn't really flop, most big budget movies don't make up their budgets in America. Its all the worldwide showings that bring it up. In the end Superman Returns will make a lot more than the budget.

POTC 2 ROCKED

because there's been ALOTT of superman movies made over the years. and this is just another one. there will be more in the future, trust me. but, another big reason is because of the new Pirates movie making it's big debut. it set a new record at the box office beating spiderman. so that was another BIG reason.
