When I photograph the moon, except during an eclipse, I get no detail. I only get a bright disk. How can I fix this?

There are a couple things you can do here. First if your camera accepts filters, there is a filter specifically designed for taking shots of the moon. It filters out the haze and brightness and gives a real nice picture.

If you can not get a filter for your camera, start by decreasing your film speed to as low as possible and setting your exposure for as quick as possible. This will help. You can also turn the flash on but cover it up with your hand or a piece of tape. This fools the camera into thinking it needs to compensate for a flash when there will not be one.

You can also use a telescope with an observation plate. I have done this many times and works quite well.

Also take a look at the source below.

Get a special camra. A nature one that will capture the picture and make it look more real.

With a good camera, use an extremly small f stop (small appature) and longer exposure time.
