The kids arent in any immediate danger. The single mother works the 3pm till 11pm shift, the 14 year old daughter watches the 3 other kids, 8, 7, and 20 months. The 14 year old wants to go have fun, she has her friends over, they are loud and rude.. and they dont pay attention to the little ones. The friends bring their little ones, too. I gave them an air conditioner, because they didnt have one. Their trash is all over the back yard.. they dont pay for garbage pick-up. Worst.. I share a driveway with them. I dont want to start a war... but I cant take watching this.... the baby always dirty and has scratches and bruises from hurting herself. I have twins that are her age, and it breaks my heart.

that's kind of hard to say, first of all she's a single mom and I am sure that she's not working that shift b/c she wants too, probably b/c she has to work, as far as the children are concerned I would try to talk to her first tell her about the 14 year old and the rude friends being over there b/c she may not know, and if no type of resolution happens, call child protective services. And also if there is a neighborhood asso. group where you live you should probably talk to them about your dirty neighbor b/c if you say something about that it may cause problems that you may not want.

Just my opinion but. Try talking to the mom first. Sounds like she's got it tough. Child well fare would investigate if a complaint was filed. If you live in a city code enforcement would respond to a complaint of trash not properly contained. Sounds like a tough situation for you. If you really wanted to help you might pick up the trash and help monitor the children. Most people would just complain.

It looks like your the only thinking adult here. Take a deep breath and make ...the call. It's your duty. Don't be scared, just do it. If you are concerned about a backlash,go talk to a cop. They are relay good about listening. They can start watching the house, and what goes. Then they can make the decision. I'm sure they would understand, since you life so close, and not wanting any trouble. But you MUST do something!!

If you're really concerned, and are in a position to help, then help them. You could do some research about low- or no-cost child care programs in your area. Whatever you decide, you should really sit down and voice your concerns to your neighbors first, and let them know that you're not trying to get them into any kind of trouble, or to start any kind of trouble with them, but you are doing what your doing strictly because you care about the children. as a last resort, and only as a last resort call your local department of child welfare.

Have you talked to the parents about what goes on while they are at work? I know it seems difficult and they might tell you to mind your own business, but at least you let them know. If they don't listen to you, you need to alert the authorities so they can contact child welfare services. They will come and investigate to see if anything should be done. You are doing the right thing.

Anomalously, report them to family services - have someone come out to take a look around and ask the children questions.

At 14 it seems young to have so much responsibility, but the world is a hard place. I feel sorry for her but it is not your business unless you want to help babysit occassionally and it would be easier on her.
