Hi I really enjoyed Travels With Charley in Search of America by John Steinbeck, and I'm looking for similar books about traveling the US. Pets not necessary! Thanks for your ideas, and would love to hear anyone's thoughts about the Steinbeck book also.

travels with Charley is a pretty good book about traveling, and the search for the heart of America. the only thing i didn't like about the book was that it seemed to be a bit slow. it was well written, i mean it's Steinbeck, but it seemed to me to always be alluding to the adventure that usually draws you into reading a traveling book to begin with. for the great taste of travel and adventure i would recommend "ON THE ROAD" by JACK KEROUAC. it is along the same lines as travels with Charley but it's a little bit more edgier. you can't go wrong with Kerouac and the beat generation.

My, my, my ... appears like homework to me. Travels with Charley is Steinbeck's his very last visit with a rustic he dearly loved, taken in a in certain equipped camper, and including his loved dogs.
