I don't think he's a jerk. I think he just made a stupid decision that cost him and his team A LOT.

Everybody else who answered 'no' is completly wrong. Zidane completley tarnished his great reputation. When two people are having a verbal fight, keep it verbal, do not let it get physical. Zidane's actions were selfish, jerkish, and inexcusable. Yea, soccer is a physical game, but headbutting is unnceccesary. Zidane should be ashamed. In some countries he would be killed for that, because he might have cost his team the Cup. The soccer I enjoy is World Cup and if FIFA awards Zidane the golden whatever to him I will probably not be a fan at all.

soccer players are used to any kind of insults: racists, religious, sexist, against their family, etc. In the course of his long career, Zidane supposedly got them all at least once. If he reacted the way he did it's not because of the nature of the insult, but because of his state of mind. Anyway it was a big mistake and I was really disappointed with him?

well... Tomorrow we will know the truth from Zidane (an interview with him),,, i mean we dont know what did Metrazzi told him exactly!! maybe its something very bad and he couldnt control his temper!i know its a game and he made a huge mistake!! but sometimes we connot control ourselves when we hear something very painful!
I dont know, Zidane is a great player... and im sure he is aware enough that hiting a player is a huge mistake! then why did he do that ! there must be something!?

As I have repeated several times...if you are a world class soccer player like Zidane you MUST NOT lower yourself to those tactics. Zizou should be ashamed of himself. It is terrible to end a national soccer career in that manner.

Stupid mistake by a seasoned professional. No matter what was said, it was a dumb move. Everyone is human and makes mistakes; lets hope that this is not what he's most remembered for. Sad way to end an amazing international career.
FORZA ITALIA!!

Have you think what it is like to be on that field playing in the finals of a world cup, I don't think so. We cannot blame the man for his action, maybe its just the heat of the moment. Let give him the benefit of the doubt.

What Zadane did was wrong, but if you were watching closely it's obvious that Marco Materazzi provoked such an action to come upon himself. After all he's a total jackass.
I am all for the Italians, but still Materazzi is equally to blame.
For every action there is a reaction, don't do the action if you can't handle the reaction! duh/

well, i dont think he is a total jerk...but pretty darn close. i mean..what a way to end your career. he is forever going to be remembered for his actions today. pertty sad. i dont think he is a total jerk though. he just over-reacted. everybody does it sometimes. but he might need anger management. haha

jerk.. not sure, I don't know him. But it was a stupid thing to do - there is nothing that could give reason for that. You are right though, most people will remember that last incident.
