No, you can’t really convert a gas engine to diesel, and installing a diesel engine in a gas car would not be cost effective. If you had a used diesel engine for a VW or something that had diesel as an engine option it would be “possible”, unless the car had an automatic transmission, which gets complicated due to diesel engines not making manifold vacuum.

You would have to put a diesel engine in it. You're talking about two completely different systems, but it can be done if a diesel engine was an option for your vehicle. To best answer your question, No, there are no tricks or modification that can be done to make a gasoilne engine run on diesel. Diesel engines are made twice as strong as gas because diesel accually explodes inside when gasoline burns. Compression ratio's are also different, I can't see a gas engine compressing diesel hard enough to detonate it without blowing the engine apart. If someone can prove me wrong, please do so.

YES it's possible & Oldsmobile did it with there 350 engines many moons ago. They increased the compression from 8 to 1 to 22 to 1 & thats one reason they didn't last-they removed the intake manifold & installed an injector pump & injectors-had to have a second battery-had to have an external vacuum pump mounted to control AC system etc. They never beefed up the lower end so the crankshafts broke on a regular basis. There is alot more to there gas to diesel conversions but as you see they didn't last very long-"CAN be done IF U have bunches of $$ U don't need"

I am a 40 year mechanic on both gas and diesel engines. Remember that old song, "If you got the money honney, I got the time"?
If you have the bucks, I will be glad to do this job for for you. Your final bill will be about twice the cost of a brand new diesel powered car.

Not realistically. There are a lot of differences between the engines. Gas uses spark plugs, diesel doesn't need them. You'd have to plug that hole. Diesel has more compression that gas (which is why it doesn't need spark plugs). You'd need slightly longer piston rods. The increased compression and force could break pistons or other parts. You lack the fuel injection assembly for the diesel fuel, one for gas, if present, can't be used as the pressures, etc. are different. If it was your mission from God, you could do the conversion, but it would be very impractical, fraught with problems, and expensive as heck.

In technical terms......yes, VW and Oldsmobile had converted gas engines at one time. Cost effective......no. If you want a diesel engine in your car buy one already equipped with a diesel engine that was designed as a diesel engine.

Sure, just replace the engine and transmission. You could spend less money by selling the gas one, and buying a diesel.

Yes but it is not cheap or easy to do . A good diesel fuel injector pump will be the biggest cost . $400, to $1250. Pending on your need for your application.

No actual harm has been executed. The gasoline device might want to be purged of each and each and every of the diesel. that's certainly something a newbie can do at living house. Disconnect gasoline line from tank and turn on key to pump contaminated gasoline out of tank. (this can take a number of minutes to a pair of hours searching on tank aspect). Re connect lines and attempt to crank automobile with spark plugs deactivated to do away with contaminated gasoline from relax of device. Re connect plug operation and crank. After operating situation exists, replace gasoline filter out. interest executed.
