when you go to a gas station, out to eat anywhere, a clothing store, a hardware store, supermarket etc.... Does the person you rely on to assist you seem freindly and helpful?

I personally work in one of these such places, I try to be friendly and helpful, but the people that come in my place of bussiness seem to act as if I should work faster and scurry to please their every whim, I understand we live in such a rush- rush society. It is hard to keep that smile on my face.

Just wanted to get your thoughts, from an honest, kind, hard worker that really loves her job, hoping that next customer isnt going to make my day that much harder. ( just so you know I am the one trying to do my best at what is expected of me )

I have been doing customer service my entire working career in several different capacities. It's not easy dealing with hundreds of people every day. People are bring their emotions that they've been carrying with them all day to my counter. I work in a casino in Nevada where people are upset with themselves for losing thousands of dollars at a time. Great huh? I have decided that I'm gonna keep being me.. Do the best I can to help and hook up the guests and make them each feel special. Not all of them are willing to be in my world. That's cool. I'm cheerful, a goof, funny, and friendly. All the things that I am in my everyday life.. at work.. or at home.. I believe that sometimes it's convenient for people who are upset about something else to take it out on the next human being in front of them. What sucks about my job is that I have no control over what is in the computer in front of me. All I can give to the guest is what the computer shows. I can attempt to tell them how to get the problem solved or get a supervisor to address it and that's it. There have been several times when I've said.. "Wow.. all I'm trying to do here is help you... Is that ok?" It's not easy keeping my pace and my demeanor consistant especially since I'm a sensitive caring human being. It's a good goal to have though. I feel that if I've made a few people smile and laugh and feel better walking away from my counter then my job is complete. I've had problems in my department because my dedication to quality service sometimes mean that I go above and beyond the call of duty.. which in their mind means I'm taking too long. It's such a trip to get in trouble for being kind and helpful.. I'm right there with you.. Sorry for the wordy answer but you got me going. This has been an issue for me for the past two years. Part of me wants to just find a job that I type file and answer phones with minimal human contact...but I know that I'm best at what I do. Just have to ride it out and see..

I get the impression from most places that you have to be a retard to work in the industry. You are not like the others and have potential to go a lot further. One thing I have noticed about successful business owners is that they work harder faster and are nicer and friendlier to their customers. Keep at it and do not let them get to you. Most people are inconsiderate selfish a$$ holes. You want to have more than satisfied customers you want raving fans. Customers that come to the business you are at because of you and your service.

short story BRB..........OK.. My first job was in service. A lady comes to the counter and and says. "Hand me that pack of tapes" I don't work in that department but I turn and look and there on the wall is a rack of 30,000 tapes!... Ok it was only maybe 40 different ones.. and like a jack@$$ I asked her "witch one"... she bellars "DON'T BE SMARTA$$ WITH ME YOU LITTLE TU*D.. THAT ONE!".. I says "witch one"..she says "CALL YOUR MANAGER YOU LITTLE PUNK, I"LL HAVE YOUR JOB!"... I says... " sweetpea, I know your frustrated because you have NO control over your personal circumstances, but there are 4000 different tapes on this wall, if you will just tell me witch one you are looking at I will be happy to hand it to you, until then this is pointless and you wouldn't want my JOB!!".. I grabbed the intercom and and said "Boomer (my bosses Nick name) Cleanup at the customer service desk".. and hung it up..I get a tap on my shoulder and it's Boomer!...He says "go check the ice cream freezers, I'll take care of this".....So YOU tell me... was I fun or what?
