How old is your daughter? If she's older, she may know more about it than you think.
We told our kids when they were about 5. They already knew daddies and boys have penises and mommies and girls have vaginas. We had already told them that babies are made from two parts, one from the mommy and one from the daddy, and they knew babies grow in the mommy's tummy because they'd seen pregnant ladies. So for "the talk", we told them inside the vagina is a secret gate. The daddy knocks on the secret gate with his penis and the gate opens and lets his part of the baby inside to meet up with the mommy's part. We told them that the knocking makes the mommy and daddy happy.
We did it this early so that they would get the basic idea from us and not from talking with friends. We also did it this way so that later we could have a framework for talking about issues like rape (knocking without permission) and infertility (baby parts don't get together).
