To remain bachelor and politics are different things altogether. Seems he was commitment phobic and don't want to settle with one girl. Now he is growing old and desparat to marry but the table has turned and the girl he loves, is not giving her nod to marry being a successful career woman. All said and done, in his many recent interviews, he implied in a lighter vein that he has kids and married a long time ago. By a long stretch of imagination, it may be true.
