I think there is a need for a balnce between capitalism with some social programs and controls on corporations. I think American has it generally correct. Conservatives don't know their history very well and forget about the abuses of industry on labor in the 19th and early part of the 20th centuries. These abuses are what lead to the creation of unions and marxism. Socialism did not form out of a vacuum. There were very specific conditions that created these idealogies. I think the greatest threat to American democracy is capitolism gone wild. This will only create a large poor population that will eventually revolt. We must not let the conditions happen again that led to the rebellions in france and russia.

Any country with money has economic slavery no matter what government you have. If you have no money then you lose your car, your house, you can't get the things you need, etc etc. so everyone is a slave in that sense. No one can just go on a piece of land and live there off the land without having to pay anything anymore. So all you can do is accept it as how crappy it is and be grateful you live in a developed country.

Capitalism is much more than $s trading hands. It's ownership of property, trading ideas & values -- voluntarily. I suspect that the agony that everyone suffered prior to the advent of capitalism is either vague or unknown to you. You should read the book below.

not me, i feel liberated by it. i feel enslaved by all who wish to reign in free markets and private property rights.
all the prosperity the human race has known over the last 400 years can be attributed to open markets, private property rights, and individual liberties--the cornerstones of capitalism. this prosperity has occured in spite of not because of anything that any governments have done.

Where do you live? I know of no nation on earth that has a capitalist economic system. In the USA we have a market oriented system, with considerable government intervention..
A good alternative would be a Utopian economy where I was the benevolent dictator, and you were my ever grateful and submissive serf.......................

Oh we are so spoiled. I know so many people who used capitalism to buy what should be the most treasured...Freedom. I know people who saved every dime they could, paid their home off, work when then want, take off when they want . They may not have the best of everything, but who cares.

Capitalism doesn't enslave people.
It gives them the opportunity to excel as no other system does.
