Round Rock is its own town and a very family oriented place. You could live there and very easily go to Austin for an of the activities that you wanted to do. That said if you didn't know they were seperate towns you might not notice. Techicnally they are about 20 miles apart, and Pflugerville is in between them, but Austin, Pflugerville and Round Rock have all grown so much that you are never out of a city. I'm sure ppl traveling through don't know they have left Austin and are now in Pflugerville. There is no time when you are driving through country to get from Austin to RR.

Austin is a different world from Round Rock, like most suburbs of a city. If you are looking for a family oreinted suburb Round Rock is for you. But if you are looking for what austin is known for, live music and different people, then you would want to live in central or south austin. The commute is definantly do-able and not too far at all. People commute from Round Rock to austin everyday and vice versa.

Round Rock, TX is just north of Austin (say... 20 minutes on the highway from Downtown). It's a bedroom community that sprung up around the Dell Computers buildings and those of other businesses. If it's anything like most other areas around Austin, Round Rock would have been ranches and farms that have since been bought and carved up into housing, commercial and retail spaces.

Round Rock is just about 20 minutes from Austin... so it's a suburb of the city.

It's cool. It has a baseball team (RR Express). It used to be nothing, now it is a little town almost. If you lived there you really would not have to go into Austin to do any shopping. The only thing is they do not have a mall, but they are going to build an outlet mall out by the baseball stadium (I think). The traffic is getting pretty bad if you work in Austin. I-35 and 1325 are a mess!
