Logistic regression is like linear regression, but instead of the end result being a best-fit line, it's a best-fit logistic curve. Logistic curves are also known as S-curves and they are used to model situations where the dependent variable can't go below one amount or above another, but rises as the independent variable increases or decreases. One example might be the number of units sold of, say, a video. At first nobody has one of those videos, then it is released and people buy it, but sales taper off as the video saturates the available market.
