The book is excellent, I think better than the movie (although the movie was good too). I have read all his books and they are good summer reads. :) I give it an 8.

Nicholas Sparks books are generally for the hopeless romantics... As a girl, I wish I could find a guy like Noah Calhoun (the protagonist in the Notebook) but realistically I know it's impossible.
However, the book is a good, quick read if you're looking for something light and not so serious. The movie and the book are both good, which is rare (but again, not something I take seriously). The movie and the book caused me to tear up a bit, so I'd rate the goodness of both at 6 or 7.

OMG one of the best books I have read. I think it is far better than the movie and has a much better ending. I think if I cried then it would be happy tears. I did not cry but I felt really good after I read it. scale of 1 -10 I would say 9.

I think it is worth reading if you like emotional roller coaster rides--experiencing joy, happiness, laughter, heartache, and grief--all within a period of one hundred or two hundred pages. I read it in college, and enjoyed it. I did cry. But the book isn't for everyone....
I seem to remember...although it's been five or six years...that the book ended differently than the movie. I seem to remember her dying...but not him. I could be wrong though.
I liked both the book and the movie. The music was a big part of the movie. Every time they started playing "I'll Be Seeing You" song....I could feel myself almost crying knowing where it was going to go. Both are emotional journeys. They're feel-good stories in a way, but I guess they could also be perceived as being emotionally manipulative.
I don't think it could make just anyone cry...I think a lot of people--girls particularly--might be more prone to this. I watched it with my dad and he was so uneffected ;)
Essentially, it depends on if you're in the mood for it...

I saw the movie and I thought it was really good despite the fact that we found the very last two seats in the theater and they were open because the two sitting on the isle were the stinkiest human beings I have ever smelled ever and I've been on the subway! Anyway, I think the book would be at least as good if not better. It could make you cry, I think, and I've only ever cried once because of a book.

The book was SO much better than the movie, I got kind of bored during the movie and I didn't care as much about the characters, but the book made me cry buckets!! I had to have a box of kleenex next to me every time I sat down to read. That's never happened to me while reading before.

It certainly had me bawling the day I read it in one sitting. It isn't any cheesier than the movie. If you liked that, then I think you'd like the book. I'd give it a 7-8 out of 10 in general, but in the tearjerker department, a 10 out of 10.

I thought it was really cheesy, IMO. But it was a very quick read, so you won't waste a lot of time if you don't like it. I would give it maybe a 5 out of 10. I like something with a little more substance.

I usually read the book before watching the movie. I accidentally saw this movie before reading the book and can not face the tears the book will bring. I will read it eventually, but not right now.
