If abuse includes abandonment with a dangerous area, I heard a story about a dog living with a family from the main orangizer of the Pueblo Colorado Collie and Sheltie Rescue. This dog got dumped on the highway to start with. He was then hit by a car going north, I believe. His body flew over to the other half of the highway, and he was then hit by a car going southbound. The dog is still alive, but he had to go through a lot of surgery and one leg is shorter than the other.

This is abuse even though his owners were "getting rid of him". However, if he had gotten lost on his own, I still consider it abuse to not have a collar/tags on a dog, as well as not having a suitable fence to keep them in. Six feet is not enough most of the time for any dog over 40 pounds or so. Also, dogs should live indoors, so since they only go out to eat, play, or defecate, this would reduce their chances of finding a way out.

There's another situation, with my dog. His owners had put an ad in the paper to sell him, for $100. He's a merle Great Dane. This was irresponsible because there are a lot of dog fighters here, and he would have probably been purchased as a bait dog. However, when we picked him up, his tail was broken at the base (perhaps an attempt to dock it without having to go to the vet when he was only a day old? I have seen this before with dogs at the pound), and one of his nails had been pulled out of the base completely, leaving a little hole at the tip of one of his toes. They said they were giving him a bath and his toe got stuck in the drainage plate, so it tore when they pulled on him. Then he had about 51-53 ticks (I forget how many exactly). This type of negligence should also be considered abuse, I think.

My daughters cat had 4 kittens. They were all healthy and cute. We live on a boat and 5 cats and 10 hamsters is a bit much. They were old enough to give away. My daughter gave 1 we called tiger grey with black stripes.to this really sweet guy in the marina. He was the nicest guy you'de want to meet. Well he said it would sleep with him and he bought toys for it and everything. Three days later it was found in the river dead. He wouldnt have anything to do with its removal from the river and my husband and I had to take it out while my 4 yr old and 11 yr old daughters saw. After pulling it out I noticed a deep stab wound into its chest. This wasnt of a bite but a real stab. The kitten was in a sleeping position as well and didnt look like it died trying to fight for its life. The water at the dock is only 4 to 5 feet and it could have swam it went in while alive. Noone ever thought he would be that cruel. He was immediately kicked out of the marina.

I am always looking for funny videos to watch while i'm at work. (im such a slacker) I was on a sight called consumptionjunction.com and i was not in store for what i came across. they have 3 videos of a woman in high heels stomping to death a kitten, puppy, and rabbit. It is the most disturbing thing i have ever seen. I refuse to go to thus sight anymore. I couldnt get these horrible images out of my head. The people responsible for this kind of twisted satanic behavior should have the same fate as those poor animals. I dont recommened watching these videos. You will be so saddened by what you see. These images haunt me.

Thankyou all - now I want to be sick!!

I have a story about spoiling

A retreiver that was given marmalade on toast with a cup of tea for breakfast, and as well as any leftovers from the nights meal, regardless of onions (poisonous to dogs), cooked bones (can splinter causing injury) or the fact that she was hugely obese!!

I had mentioned ever so politely that maybe they should consider watching what they feed her, and they said, oh she's ok, it's how we show her we love her- BY KILLING HER SLOWLY!!??

People are so often doing the wrong things with the best of intentions. This dog knew that she had them wrapped around her finger- if she didn't want to go outside to go toilet, she didn't, doesn't want to go walkies anymore? Just sit down, they'll wait, or better yet- Carry Me!!

It's rediculous. If you care about your pet, take responsibility for it's health and wellbeing.

I was at the cat shelter, looking at the cats and deciding which I wanted to adopt. The girls who worked at the shelter went outside for a few minutes and discovered a big closed Tupperware container in the parking lot. When they went closer to inspect it, they heard a meow coming from inside. There were no airholes in the container. Someone had just dropped off the container, not caring if the cat lived or died or even breathed. Thank heavens the girls found it in time to save him. In fact, one of the girls from the shelter decided to adopt him.

The incident about the horse that was "slaughtered" because of his legs being broken is not slaughter, it is the humane was to deal with this issue. Due to the weight of the animal and the fact that they cannot use crutches. It is financially unfeasible to the average horse owner and it is no guarantee that they will heal, and if they do, they will most likely become lame or will not be able to work.

Some local guy sped up and plowed through a family of ducks crossing a road... Luckily enough people saw it that he got reported and arrested through some water-bird-protection loophole... mwahaha ;-)

What gets me the most though are embedded collar cases. Dogs will end up so ignored that their necks grow around their own collars and they have to be surgically removed. Can you imagine how long that must take???
