Gasoline is an Aliphatic Hydrocarbon.Gasoline is molecules composed of Hydrogen and carbon atoms arranged in different chains.Gasoline has 7 to 11 carbons in each chain. You have to distill crude oil in such a manner that you have 8 carbon molecules and 13 hydrogen molecules. The 8 carbon molecules is where we get the" oct" for octane. If it had 7 carbon molecules it would be" heptane".By the way it has a low compression rating and would ignite in self combustion before the spark plug ignited the fuel-air mixture. Therefore we use 87 octane, which is 87% octane and 13%heptane or some other mixture resulting in 87%-13% mixture.Than you have to decide whether to use Methel Tertiary Butyl Methane, which is an oxygenate,to boost horse power, now that you can't use Tetraethyl lead due to ozone conditions, any way if you have the parts to do all this, man I say go for it!

You can't. It's not exactly like brewing up moonshine in your basement. Even if you had the knowledge, equipment, and permits to do so, it would cost you a lot more than at the pump. Check out the source for the refinery process.
