Lawrd yes honey! Imagine squeezing a small watermelon through a garden hose! And that's not considering the contractions! Now let me just say - to each his own! More power to you if you want to go the natural rout, but in my opinion (and that's why we're here!), its as necessary as getting a root canal with no anesthesia. No matter what you decide, it won't matter once the baby is here anyhow! You'll forget the pain and you'll just enjoy your little one!!! But they just don't give drugs that put you in la la land (if they do, they're going to give them to you regardless because there's a problem!) there's just very little reason not to in comparison to the reasons to do it! If you get an Epi, it will allow you to relax, & *enjoy* the birth process and generally when you relax, your cervix relaxes and makes the process go quicker! I've worked in the medical field since I was 16 (31 now) and I've seen my share of natural, C sections and epidurals in my life and when it finally came time for my sons birth 2 1/2 years ago, I assured the anesthesiologist she WOULD be in my room! I've *never* seen a woman so doaped up she coulnd't comprehend what was going on without medical reason, thats all a myth! Do what you think is best, but don't be afraid to ask for DRUGS!!!!!

Enjoy your pregnancy and your new little one!

Yes, it feels like the worst menstrual cramps you've ever had! But like they say, you forget about it within a few months, otherwise no one would ever have more than one child would they? Believe it or not, the breathing and relaxation techniques help a lot, they also calm you down. I was miserable during my first labor, mostly because i didn't know what to expect, so i was nervous about not having much control, and also about what could go wrong, and if they would tell me if something did! When I got pregnant the second time, i went to the library and checked out every book i could on childbirth and pregnancy. I wasn't anywhere near as scared or worried, because i already knew the worst, and what to watch for, and also what my options were if something horrible did happen! This made everything easier, and believe it or not less painful, because i relaxed enough that i wasn't getting cramps in my muscles from holding them so tightly in fear! Smile, it will be alright, the best tool is information!

Well, it does hurt, although how much it hurts varies from woman to woman and even from one birth to another. I can recommend prepared childbirth classes, like Lamaze method -- they can help you practice other ways of getting through childbirth with as little pain medication as you wish. An important thing to know is that, no matter how bad it is, it's over in a few hours to a day, and then you have something wonderful to show for it! it's definitely worth it! It's not always as bad as the horror stories you hear. I had five babies with no pain meds during labor, and I'd do it all again (although I am not condemning women who wish or need to use pain meds). I was still afraid, even with my later kids, but that's natural to be afraid.

Well..it doesn't tickle. I had 2 natural...no drugs at all...I'm not sorry I did it that way..I'm glad I was coherant for it all (plus I'm terrified of spinals) And what they say about you forget about all the pain once you hold the baby...you remember it...but you know it was all worth it. Don't be afraid. I worked in a hospital and saw mannnny women give birth. Some silently..some screaming...but they all succeeded. Girls from 12 years old (I know unbelievably sad)... to a 49 year old woman. You'll be fine. And..also, Lamaze does help. Bestof wishes for you and your new addition :)

Yes it hurts, but women did it for thousands of years without drugs, so it must be bearable. I'm also pregnant and nervous about the birth, but I figure I'll try naturally first, then gas, then pethidine, then epidural (if I need them). Just going up in this order means the smallest amount of pain relief at each stage. Epidural makes the birth take longer though, so it will be my last resort.

when u have a natural birth after bub is born u can hold them right away and spend those first precious moments with ur new baby. and once bub is born the pain is gone, all over with. when u have a c section when bub is born and ur drugs wear off that is when the pain begins, while ur trying to enjoy ur new bub. and after a c section ull have to be stiched up and recover from ur major abdominal surgery during which time u wont be enjoying ur babys first amazing hours. i had my children out of a hospital with very natuaral births, no drugs. it didnt hurt that much. my second baby, a 9lb 4oz boy was born at home with my daughter (19 months) sleeping in the next room. so it couldnt have been too bad or id have woken her.. if u know what to do and u have a good midwife and u dont let the doctors push u around ull be fine, ur body will take over and ull know what feels right. email me if u wanna chat some more...

i have had three boys natural and it didn't bother me but my friend made a big deal out of her two natural births i think it all depends on the woman and her pain tolerance level i was ready to go home an hour after the birth of my boys but of course i couldn't. The more prepared you are the better it will be.

yes but if you really want to do it naturally you will be able to. i've given birth naturally once and with an epidural twice. epidural sure seemed easier but that also might be because those were my 2nd and 3rd labor and deliveries so my body knew what to do more efficiently. besides, the real hurt comes after during the recovery period so whatever your choice is during labor and delivery, make sure you have a good painkiller that you're taking home with you.

I'm a guy, and if it were me having to give birth I would take every drug they had in the hospital. I would then make them go to another hospital and get all of those drugs as well. The more drugs the better.

The commedian Carol Burnett describes labor pains like this:
"Take your bottom lip and pull it over your own head."

I think it may sting a little.

I was on too much medication to remember the pain since the epidural didn't work. I have heard though that the pain felt during delivery is the fastest pain for most women to forget after they look into their baby's eyes.
I felt the pain afterwards, from the stitches from the tear my son's big head gave me during delivery. You get over that too. Trust me, it takes a bit of time, but you will find that you don't think about it much once your baby comes home there are going to be too many visitors and too many things to do after that.
