I haven't been to every place in the US but I would say that a small town with progressive people is a good place to start!

I think small, southern states are hands down the friendliest. My family and I visited my grandmother in a little town called Pelican, Louisiana years ago. Our arms got tired waving back at total strangers who waved at us! It's like everyone is already your friend. That's not as much the case in much of California. In some areas, people would just as soon run you down as be nice to you.

Definitely the great plains states or the south. People are more laid back, less arrogant, and tend to socialize more.
The most friendliest people I've met seem to be mostly from states like Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri.

I live in Florida and went to Wisconsin. I was shocked how nice people are.
I missed my rude people . Anyone I could tell f*** off and they would answer "No hablo ingles!"
PS: About the "southern Hospitality" - Only if you are white.

i lived in lawrence kansas i hear that we are some pretty open minded, caring people. but i would have to say the indians on the reservations, they seem so care free and open hearted. they arent bitter no matter how much they deserve to be.
really anybody that is welcoming and makes you comfortable deserves that title.
