Hay, I have toured extensively through China, Chinese folks have always I believe from the beginning always attempt to make deals on anything they have to sell or buy, I believe this custom is rampant in the orient, Japan, Philippians, Vietnam, Okinawa, Korea, Thailand and in every other country in the far east that I did not list!
It is the custom, century's old, as old as time. Please do not be offended by there custom, they do not have a fixed hard price for there wears. They do not single out any particular race, gender, religion, country, it is there custom! Long ago in the new world (America) this practice of barter was the custom of the old world that our for fathers brought with them across the Atlantic. We had little or no money to speak of, but we had eggs from our chickens, milk from our cows, wood chopped from the foists, grain from our crops, CORN from our brothers the native AMERICANS, nails from the black Smith, so on and so on, but with time things changed. Our for fathers started making money from salver mines and gold mines. Next we started printing small pieces of money from paper and it had different values printed also. Time changes all things and in some cultures changes come very slow...

Are you sure it's always? There aren't enough Jamaican people to go around! Most people like to make deals because they think it will be profitable for them. So that's the usual reason. Jamaican people need to make sure the Chinese person doesn't take advantage of them, but if they like the deal, and it's wise, why shouldn't they go ahead?
