It depends on what you mean by makeup. 12 year olds usually have gorgeous skin to begin with, so there's no need to cover it up with heavy foundation. If my daughter were 12, I would emphasize good skin care - meaning regular gentle cleansing with a proper face wash, and proper treatment of any acne she may have, which is common in this age group.
I think it's totally appropriate for you to start using an actual "facewash" instead of bar soap, and to use a little toner afterwards to help further cleanse the skin and to help treat any acne. Then I would suggest using an acne treatment all over any areas of the face where pimples are common, even if you you don't currently have any pimples in that area right now. Prevention certainly helps when it comes to treating acne. If you have especially bad acne a trip to a dermatologist (skin doctor) would certainly benefit you, as they can prescribe stronger acne treatments than can be bought in stores.
As far as makeup goes, along with acne many girls in your age group also have very oily skin. I know I did when I was 12. I think an oil blotting pressed face powder (the kind that comes in a little compact with a mirror) would help a lot with this. Your mom can help pick the right color for you. It would help if you mention that you really only want it to help your skin to not be so oily. I also think it would be ok to wear a light colored lipgloss, a clearish pink or peach, but nothing too heavy or glittery. Also a light coating of a brown lash tint (basically a lighter version of mascara) would compliment your features as well. Neutrogena makes a product specifically called Lash Tint which will make your lashes more defined but won't overwhelm your already beautiful features.
So when it comes to makeup for a 12 year old, I say yes to Oil Blotting Powder, yes to a light brown lash tint, and yes to a light lipgloss, and a big YES to appropriate skincare. I hope this helps you. I certainly would try to talk to your mom first about wearing makeup and see what she has to say, be sure to actually listen and if she is saying no bring up the points that I've mentioned here with an emphasis on skincare, not makeup.
I also see no problem asking mom if you can just wear makeup around the house, even the more crazy and wild colors. Being a girl is about having fun, being creative and having the allowance to experiment and be yourself. If your mom can see this experimentation in more of a "creative play" way and less of a "my dauughter is trying to grow up too fast" way, you are much more likely to be get your mom's "ok" with makeup.
If all else fails, if you stick to the powder, light lash tint and light lipgloss the effect should be subtle enough that you should be able to get away with it, even if you didn't get a "yes" from mom and dad beforehand, but as I said I definitely suggest asking them first.

Yes, you should wear very little makeup. Make sure you are mainly in the browns for any type of makeup. Also, wear makeup (at most) once a week. I'm sure you don't need makeup. Also, lip gloss is excellent to use for grand effect. I used to wear eyeliner and a tiny bit of bronzer when I was 12. It didn't look bad. But, now I'm 15, and my skin is not very healthy. Also, if you are going to wear any makeup, make sure you drink lots of water, and eat a lot of fruits. Put on moisturizer, before you put on makeup, so there is a glowing affect. Good Luck!

Well, I am 13 and I started to wear makeup at 11. NOT like caking it on, just lipgloss and pink sparkly anything, really. I hate foundation! I don't need it, and it cloggs your pores. I wear mascara, lip tint, occasional eyeshadow, and maybe eyeliner. I can wear these things because I'm aware of quantity, and I can put it on well. I don't think 12 is an appropriate age to wear foundation because it will cause alot of zits an early age...the age when you still get teased. Not when your alot older and everyone has them. I say it's up to parents to decide when it's right to let their kids have makeup.

Don't let everyone freak you out! A little makeup does not make you a slut! Just remember the key to makeup is so that no one can tell you have any on. I know this seems like it is defeting the purpose but it is not. If you go light (and this goes for any age) you won't look overdone or like you are trying too hard!
I say go for it and just start out with maybe a light powder, lip gloss, and clear mascara. It will be fun to prance around in real makeup AND not look like you are trying too hard!
Have fun!

No, being 12 years of age the skin is still changing. At this point you can cause a little damage to the skin. Skin rash, atopic dermities, herpes, all kinds of skin problem can occur. Wait until the right time 16 years of age, apply a small amount. 18 years of age if you only need it. Remember younger you start wearing make up, ..the older you will look later in years.

Only if you learn to use it correctly with good skin care. Start simple yet pretty. Natural colors to enhance what you have and make a gorgeous pre teen and not a 12 year old trying to look 16. Beautiful skin is the greatest part of any makeup plan.

This all depends upon the occasion. If for everyday, I think 12 is a bit too young to wear everyday, but for a special occasion, a light blush, and lip gloss is fine. You can ask for help at a make-up counter and if the saleslady isn't busy, you could ask her to show you how to apply it so it looks natural. You've got plenty of years ahead of you when you will have to wear make-up, so enjoy being a teenager and don't rush it. Always remember good skin care. No make-up will look good (no matter who applies it) with poor broken-out skin. You can ask what routine to follow at a Clinique counter or other skin care products counter. Always remember to wash all make-up off before bedtime, no matter how tired you may be! If you have a Mother, she can be a great source of help!

I would say no, because a girl that young does not need to put on makeup, she doesn't need to add things to her face to look prettier, when I was twelve I did try make-up and I just look like I was a clown, I'm not kidding. Your face is so young and beautiful and that it doesn't need anything only if it is like lip gloss or even fondation for your cheeks but other wise that is about it, but that is just my opinion, but I started wearing makeup when I was14, but just remember to wash your face off before you go to bed, otherwise you will get zits and that really stinks, because the makeup plugs up pores. So whatever you choose you will still look beautiful

Yes, but don't wear a lot of makeup. My younger sister is 12 and just started to wear it as well. I wouldn't wear all the time and don't if you don't really want to. I didn't start wearing makeup until I was 19 :-) Natural beauty is always the best!
