This World Cup was the first time I actually got excited about watching soccer (yes, I'm an American). It's a lovely sport to watch, I realize now, or at least can be (the semifinal matches were almost all very exciting!), and it's so compelling when a billion people are all into it and watching the same game! That profound buzz of being part of something larger...Americans will likely forget about it for another 4 years, but I hope they pay a little more attention next time World Cup rolls around. Each time ABC had to scroll apologies and 'broadcast alerts' telling people that the golf tourny coverage had to move to espn because of the final of the world cup I wanted to roll my eyes. I think espn indeed was broadcasting a hotdog eating contest during the france-portugal game for goodness sake...

N O .Football (or soccer as you may call it) is the biggest sport in the world. Your statement is obviously the result of forcing a league in the US, in a country with no tradition. You can forget about it, I mean you still have a World Series (with all american/canadian teams), a super bowl (sport only played in the US), Stanley cup (should probably compete with more americans rather than russians), or the NBA finals (sport played professionally only in the US)

I don't understand how some of these dumb F***** Americans always come in here and act ignorant. Just accept the fact that Soccer (football) is the number 1 worldwide sport and that it is way more popular that American football, baseball, or basketball. I live in the U.S. but I hope and wish a lot of my countrymen would open up their eyes and realize that there is a really big and civillized world out there past the Atlanic and Pacific Oceans. Think beyond the U.S. borders because there is so much too see and understand if you open your eyes.
