We never gave up America.

It's right here on this forum, as well as tens of thousands of other venues: newspapers, college campuses, dinner table discussions, water cooler debates and our own inner thoughts and conflicts.

America is maddeningly and gloriously imperfect...always has been and always will be. But we own it and we alone can change it.

I might add that "WE The People" HAVE changed America many times before.

We've reversed inhumane Supreme Court rulings (like Dred Scott), we've ended unpopular wars (like Viet Nam), we've established formerly denied rights (like women and minorities right to vote) and we've broken up anti-competitive trusts (like Standard Oil). We've done this at the bully pulpit of public protest and we've proven our resolve at the voting booth.

Last time I checked, the bully pulpit and the voting booth are still standing.

One last caveat to my conservative brethren: Most "conservatives" have resisted changes such as those I've outlined above. Does that make conservatives evil and misguided?

No. I believe that a certain amount of resistance to change is necessary. I made no attempt to chronicle all of the harebrained changes suggested (daily, if not hourly) by the extreme left. Some reflexive opposition to this hyperbole is a good thing.

We're wrong sometimes, but they're wrong most of the time. Thank God for both points of view. And thank God for OUR America.

I'll never give it away to anyone!

Take back America? How are you going to do that? With a white flag and by lying in the street?

Lock up the borders, stop buying anything not made in America, stop using call centers in India when you have issues w/ a company. If I can't decipher what's being said I demand to speak to a supervisor, I keep going up until I speak to someone who understands English.

We should undo the mess in Iraq by pulling out of there ASAP and give Iraqis the freedom to choose their own destiny. Since we're the ones reponsible for making Iraq a dangerous hell hole, we should also allow Iraqis (who want to) the choice to come to America.

I'm British. I don't want it back. But thanks for the offer. Prehaps you should try the natives.
