I went to start, chose "all programs", chose "accessories", chose "communications", and chose "remote desktop connection". After I did this a window came up, and you have to enter the IP of the computer you want to connect to, and then choose "connect". I entered the IP of the computer that I wanted to connect to and recieved the following message:
"the client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections might not be enabled, or the computer might be too busy to accept incoming connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection..."
I do not have access to the computer I want to connect to, so I can't do anything on that computer. I can only do things from my own computer. So is there any way I can still just use my own computer to connect to another computer for which I have the IP address? Perhaps there is a way to do it online?

Ok so I just read your last post and responded and now I see you posted this as well. Even if the other computer did have remote desktop enabled, you are going to need to have a username and password to access the system. To turn on remote desktop, do the following.
1. Right Click on My Computer
2. Click on properties
3. go to the remote tab
4. under Remote Desktop, make sure the box labeled "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is checked.

If you do not have a user account, you will need to create one and give the account remote logon access.

I will refer back to your other question and my answer, buy a firewall and be done with your issues.

If the computer is setup for remote desktop or its disabled, you will not be able to just remote to it even if you have its IP address. If you would like to do it online, there are products like GoToMyPC which allow you to connect online but you have to install a client program on the computer you want to connect to, then you can use your web browser to remotely control it. It costs a little money. A free version would be LogMeIn

You can't not just connect to any computer you want. NO.
You can connect to a windows terminal server which you have given the access. You can also connect to peer computers that has granted access by giving you invitation. If you believe you have authorization and can't connect, check the firewall settings.

Oh, you'll have to access the other computer. You'll have to get in there and grant permission to access.
