The Italian player must have bad mouthed Zidane and that provoked him to act carelessly. Consequently, he got a red card that most people found it hard to accept his infamous act, especially Zedane who's a world class elite player.
In my mind, no, he should have stayed on, controlled his anger and fought it all the way till the penalty shoot out. The team definitely needed him there for leadership and confidence. As a matter of fact, this wasn't the first time he had acted foolishly.
What a sad ending for a wonderful ex-footballer of the year.

A fit of temper. A world cup soccer final is tense and physical with fouls commited by both sides. A team captain, one who has had such illustrious career, should know better than to behave in such a manner. He is a typically classy guy and extraordinarily talented soccer player. Sad day to see him leave the field.

zidane has had an amazing career but he obviously has problems keeping his temper in check. its really sad that his career had to end on such a sour note. it doesn't really matter what materazzi said. zidane chose to react like he did and there is no condoning that.

ok,he should have been nicer on his last day and you know that now that he gave someone a head-butt,hes not going to be forgotten for that.he made his last day sorrowful with a red card too plus his team lost on his last day.what a pity for "Zizou" but people would still remeber him for all the goals he scored though.
