Were you embarrassed? Do you still think it's taboo to cry openly?
This question came up because of an incident I ran into. I was at the grocery store yesterday and witnessed a woman reprimanding her 2 or 3 year-old son for crying. She kept belittling her son by gruffly asking him repeatedly, "Why are you crying? Are you a girl? Why are you crying like a little girl?"
The poor boy tried so hard not to keep crying. I felt really awful for the boy and I was so tempted to put the mother into a headlock and sweep the floor with her face.
It got me wondering if this is still prevalent nowadays, this whole conditioning of male children not to cry in public.
