I think exorcism movies would qualify as scariest - probably the original. Or Stigmata.
The Mothman Prophecies is suspenseful and weird until the very end- surprisingly good!
Do not believe the hype about Hostel- it's not scary at all and it's even funny in QT's way.
btw, I have not seen that one about Chernobyl (Hills? or something). I was too scared to go.
movies with voice effects scare me most for some reason- that's why i say exorcism movies

I can't remember the name of it as it was pretty obscure but it was some film about a haunting/poltergeist. And of course it didn't have fantastic visual effects. But was the use of the sound in it that scared me.
Especially when the shutters were slamming ha ha.

The only one I may ever 100% admit to making me jump out of my seat was Aliens.
The ones that have stayed with me the most over the years were the Blair Witch Project and Event Horizon (Sam Neill from Jurassic Park and Laurence Fishburne).
