Well I think yes but is not that easy. First there has to be a majority asking for it and so far that has not happen but if there were then you would have to ask how much that is going to cost the other 50 states in taxes because PR would suck double the ammount in Federal aid as they do now and if they are going to contribute to the federal pot how much will they be willing to contribute or are they willing to contribute. Also, if they do, they will have more representative than other states so are those states willing to have less power in congress than PR. The decision is up to the voters in the island but is a hard one for everyone.

Puerto Rico can be the 51st state if its people elect to be a part of the United States. On the other hand, the people of the United States should also have a referendum or a legislative if they want Puerto Rico to be part of their nation. Nevertheless, Puerto Rico is qualified to be a state of the USA only if it is accepted both ways by Puerto Ricans and Americans.

puerto ricans have voted many times opposing US-statehood also congress has never offered that option to puerto ricans due to many factors:economic, cultural and language .puerto ricans are very proud of their history, unique latin culture and language and it would be a big mistake for the US to have Puerto rico as a state since we already saw quebec wanting to get out of Canada, and it is natural. at the end people always defend their national identity and want their freedom from colonialism. Puerto rico needs to find it's place in the globalization era but as a free country, not as a US state.

It should be. So many puerto ricans and decendants are american. We should come together as one. It still feels like Puerto Rico is seperate and United States born puerto Ricans are diffrent.

They certainly should. But I seem to recall that there are groups there that keep it from getting on the ballots. They have representation, they should join. I think certain peoples there enjoy using the minority thing to get perks, from us.
