This is a question posed to everyone who is religious or non-religious. If you are a member of a specific religion, I'm curious to know how it would affect your faith if an alien race from a distant world were to land on our planet and present themselves as not only peaceful, but willing to aid the human race in any way necessary to achieve nearly the same technological prowess such a race would achieve if they mastered interstellar travel. I'm also curious to know what your comment would be if this alien race also came with a religious belief totally different from your own religion (IE, based on science and yet they believe in a deity but they don't believe in a messiah or a heaven and a hell... or they proved that there is no God, etc...)

Atheists, non-theists, and non-religious can answer too of course. Just imagine that these aliens proved the existence of a God.

So many best answers, I'll leave it up to you guys.

Now for me to speak...

I actually believe if aliens do come to Earth, they would've known all about us ahead of time. The time and place they choose to land will be planned out in order to maximize their ability to make peace with our race. Their religion could consist of anything. One possibility is that because every living being has a soul (imho), and souls consist of some form of energy, that energy can be detected through means we have not discovered yet. They would've also proven that the soul is the fastest object in the Universe since they cross it in less than a second - thus they cannot pinpoint where a soul goes after a living organism dies. They've concluded that there must be a "Mother-soul"...a God... in order to create these souls. Further research would've shown evidence of guardian angels of individuals and even their entire planet, and after successfully contacting one somehow they confirmed the existence of a God.

Well, I haven't quite decided for sure which way the universe works, so I would probably best label myself as an agnostic.

Hmm, honestly, I would be really very impressed if they could prove the existance of god! I think I like the idea of a "higher power," but my reason for doubting has been the lack of proof. I'm always told that you believe in deity based on faith, or intuition, but without proof, I have always felt like I am guessing! So these aliens would be able to prove something for me that has long been in the realm of "unanswered questions." Wow, these are awesome aliens! :)

If, however, they *thought* it was evidence, and I thought their evidence was too flimsy to warrant acceptance, then I would choose to simply respect their beliefs. After all, they are trying to help us, why should I stomp all over their beliefs and feelings about it?

I am a Christian (I specify because I don't consider myself 'religious'). I do not see any inherent conflict between my faith/beliefs and the possibility that we are not the only planet in this vast universe on which God created life. I would be curious as to whether God had instilled in these beings a soul or conscience. I believe that what separates human beings from other earthly creatures is that we have a spirit and a soul, while other creatures do not. If these beings arrived with a proposed proof of the inexistence of God, I would take into consideration whether they were granted the ability to discern things of a spiritual nature (i.e. they are in fact spiritual beings) and go from there. As I stand now, if anything happens which conflicts with what I believe, I must be incorrect in my conclusions. God is infallible, and it would take much more than a superficial, calculated proof to convince me otherwise.

If they did not share my beliefs, what would make them any different than anyone on Earth? To be sure, their science would be much more advanced than ours if they came here, but any two races that develop separately on separate planets must have completely different belief systems. I would be most shocked if they came here and actually shared my beliefs!

But if they came and claimed to have proved I was completely wrong, I would want to view their proof, which would have to be analyzed just like any proof offered by humans. If their proof had merit to it, I would be willing to ultimately change my beliefs, since there's no use believing what is clearly not the truth.

If they didn't explicitly offer proof against my beliefs, but merely came with their advanced technology, peaceful ways and willingness to share-- I would first question their motives. Perhaps I am too human, or perhaps I have seen one too many episodes of the Twilight Zone, but if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I would advocate accepting their help, with caution. It would not necessarily impact my belief structure at all. I believe in a God who created us, and if he created us, what should stop him from creating other beings?

They could prove all they want but I would stick to my faith. It would cause me a lot of emotional distress to be "proven" my faith was wrong. It would make me feel like I had to choose between Christianity and this alien religion. I would stick to Christianity! The aliens would be wrong in my opinion. Also I would not be surprised that God created life on other planets. He probably did for us if they came to our planet to help us.

I do believe in a Christian-type God. I belive that we do not know everything and aliens can be a part of God's world. It could provoke some people who are very close minded about what God wants think a bit harder about acceptance and love. Everyone regardless of belief would have alot to think about.

Christianity, all religion, the Bible are nothing more than a Salvation plan for humanity. Outside of the human race these things do not apply.

So what if extraterrestrials land? If they needed Salvation I am certain that God provided a Salvation plan uniquely for them. Perhaps their race did not fall from grace.

You know believing in God is not only a duty of one person...

Actually it is duty of all of us...

That is the reason why God created everyone of us...

If the aliens landed on earth and it is true then maybe god created them too...

If they introduce another God from which we never knew before then that's contradictory to what we are believing before...

Bible is enough to wright every bit of answer to every bit of questions arising form every person in the world fut first you must know how to used it Coz every bit of the truth there lies in hidden depth of understanding that no one can unless you are destined to understand and ask to scattered to Truth to everyone...

I will stand on my belief even they proved the existence of their GOD...

I am a christian and I believe that all things were created by God.
So if there were (or are) aliens, then God would have created them.
Therefore, I would not be afraid, regardless of the outcome, whether good or bad.
Of course, if they turned out to be good, it would be pretty cool!

Man/Humans have to be pretty stuck on themselves to believe that an Omnipotent being would not create but one race with intelligence and reasoning abilities.

I would welcome the visiting beings from another world and would be interested in learning all I could from them.
