The official scientific line is that the sun only ever has a temporary good effect, then over a long period of time it damages the skin and makes acne worse.
My acne always clears up on holiday when I'm in the sun though. So I'd say yeah it's good.

Hello from Corliss
In answer to your question, it would seem that the sunshine would dry out the acne. . . However, acne is caused by over activer oil glands. Therefore, the most you will do by sunning yourself to death is get Sun BURN. I am sorry, but on the brighter side of things, depending on how extreme the acne is you can purchase over the counter products that will remedy the problem. BUT FIRST, consult an adult, parent, or doctor. What type of doctor you ask? A dermatologist.
Good Luck
Corliss

The sun is good for acne.
Although the sun may work in the short-term to redden the skin, thus blending your skin tone with red acne marks, a sun tan is actually skin damage. Although the sun has been shown to hasten the healing of existing acne lesions, it paradoxically creates new ones in the future, thus perpetuating the disease. The sun is a short-term Band-Aid which will bite back with more acne in the weeks following exposure

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

I was in hospital once (for another reason) and asked a doctor about what are the best ways of getting rid of acne?
His words were get plenty of sun to them. Vitamin?? (it comes from the sun)
And I did this and loe and behold it got rid of the majority of the spots.
Hope this helps
p.s. Use tooth paste as well just rub it in and it gets rid of them

I heard being out in the sun for a little bit might be good but not being out there for like hours on end...

What is good for acne is high water intake and high vitamin intake (Specifically Vitamin B5, C, A, D)
Accutane is a simple derivative of Vitamin A, that just allows the drug companies to patent a free vitamin.
You will never hear this obvious because its bad for business.
Up your water and vitamin intake, and complexion will improve.
