You may want to try working in a state that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation. Although 85% of Americans believe that employment discrimination ought to be illegal, there is currently no federal law that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation. Twelve states prohibit sexual orientation discrimination in the private sector (Calif., Conn., Hawaii, Mass., Maryland, Minn., Nevada, New Hamp., New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, & Wisconsin) and seven others only in the public sector.

Best wishes finding employment in one of the friendly states...I am grateful I am in one of them! My hope is that some day we be free and those in office will look back at the GLBT civil rights struggle and say "what the !@%* were we thinking?!"

Well, you have to remember that Texas is the last Republic. This sort of mentality is so prevalent here. Texas is also a big portion of the bible-belt, so you'll have these fanatics. To run tandem with being the last Republic, Texas is primarily a Republican state.

A privately-owned company can pretty much do as it pleases, however it does have to follow the guidelines that are federally enforceable, especially if this company receives any sort of government financial support or exemptions.

God made Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve...hmm, well if God made all, that means He made Adam & Steve! I know that's a play on words, but I get so sick of hearing that little pulpit quote.

You will have to have extremely concrete proof that your dismissals were based solely upon your orientation. Remember one more thing about Texas: it's an "at-will" state, so every employer can release you at any time for nothing at all.

Check into your state laws. I'm in Washington. Our law is if they don't like your car they can fire you. They don't need a reason to fire you. I have seen espresso makers get fired for gaining weight, even though the coffee is great. But on the other hand we are so diverse here, There has got to be at least 1 knowingly homosexual at every job I've ever had.

uhh i live in Texas I'm a transsexual and I'm not an idiot but work tech support and Ive never been discriminated against since the company is not against LGBT, and also, you should sue the company if you were fired for being gay bi, lesbian, or transgendered because as a bisexual i am human just as yourself and live in the united states under the constitution and human rights, which means if it was still legal to discriminate against LGBT then not a single gay lesbian bisexual or transgendered person would ever win a case against discrimination

Fight injustice, it's a pain but how else will people learn? Think of the civil rights movement, what would be happening now if no one complained about being mistreated

I say fight it. You will never know unless you fight. It could happen again and again and again, but you'd never have the right to say anything, because you let it happen. Talk to a few lawyers, see if there is something you can do. That's like firing someone because they have blue eyes.

Fight it. Nobody benefits when we sit back and take discrimination except for the bigots and hate-mongers. What if everyone didn't fight back?
