My nail is brittle towards the cuticle, that was a few days ago, now my nail is growing and it looks funny,?

it looks like I have a fake nail on and it is cracked and the new nail is coming in after it, what is going on???? I don't remember slamming a door on it or anything. There is a huge dent in the middle where the old nail and new nail meet.....
