Haha... Italy will be stripped of the title when the facts come out!!!! He said something like
"go back to Africa, you don't belong to Europe". Very few people know that Zidane has African
background but he has! He responded spontenously without thinking of the consequences because he
is NOT used to receiving racial slurrs.... he really looks white!
The Italian goalkeeper actually said something to that effect to Thierry Henry PRIOR to this
incident (holding Henry around the shoulder to make sure he hears), but Henry just replied "****
YOU!" without taking any physical action. Henry is noticably black so he is used to this as a
professional player, and he responded appropriately.
Notice that when the Zidane case happened it was the Italian goalkeeper who allerted the referee.
This tells you it was a pre-planned and pre-meditated phsycological and racial tactics that the
Italians used against the French to expell a French player and consequently win this
Championship. FIFA is fighting a fierce battle right now against racism in football so I'm
absolutely convinced that when the facts come out, Italy will be stripped of the title!
Finally, this should be a lesson to African players. If they ever want to win this cup they
should be prepared to receive racial slurrs on the field without taking physical action.

From what I saw on the coverage he was having ill words with the Italian player, walked away then turned around as the other player was near him again and head butted him. It was a hard game, he was under a lot of pressure and while yes he should have better composure in his position he's done this before, trampling a Saudia Arabian years back during another World Cup. In this situtaion it would matter little who you are as fatigue can affect any and every one, at the least he simply lost it under the conditions.

Some said that Materazzi appeared to pinch and twist Zidannes nipple as he let go of him in the penalty area, Zidannes first reaction was shock and when he realised what had happened I think he lost his temper. Watch the replay carefully he twisted his hand as he let go.
Other said that the Italian twisted Zidane's shirt and pinched it. which symbolized a pigs ear which is one of the worst insults to muslims, who think of pigs as the absolute dirtiest nastiest things on the earth. most muslims would kill the insulter if that happened!

Good question. One I'm sure millions of people who watched the game would like to know. Including myself.
I think for one he was probably frustrated, esp. when his header didn't go in that would have won France the game, and he wanted to win in his last game ever, and it wasn't happening and he just lost it.
