I never got an owners manual with the car

Look in your owners manual. That's the book, that came with your car when you bought it. It's in your glove box.

it means you have an error code in your computer.you can either take it to a garage to have it scanned or you can reset the computer. sometimes the computer will set a code for an evap leak(very common)this means you may have left your gas cap loose. you can disconnect your battery cables then touch the positive wire to the negative post on your battery.this will reset your computer. if the light turns back on then you will need a scan at he garage. good luck
