I watch games with my husband on TV, and see all the people in the stands. I'm very amazed at the high attendance. I enjoy watching the game too, but I don't live for baseball. My question is, what is so appealing about baseball that thousands and thousands of Americans are such dedicated fans?

For alot of us, we were brought up that way. When I was a kid, I spent many summer afternoons sitting in front of the radio (this was before cable, when there were only a few games a week broadcast on TV, but they were all on radio) with my Grandpa, just soaking up the history and learning the rules. Either him or my Dad took me to a few games a year, both at Shea (my Grandpa loved the Mets) and at Yankee Stadium (my Dads team). Baseball represents family bonding time to me, something we could all agree about, even when I was a teenager, and I didn't agree with anyone about anything.

I think that for most really rabid sports fan, you will find it to be a family tradition of sorts. I remember when I was a teenager, my Mom was a very staid, reserved homemaker, very June Cleaver. That was how my friends knew her. One of my friends came over when we were watching the World Series (the Yankees were playing) and my Mom had the Jersey, she had the hat, she had Pom Poms, she was bouncing up and down on the couch, just hollering, "You G-D BUMS", etc. My friend was so shocked, but this was how my family was.

Hi... What is appealing about baseball is the fact that it provides an escape from work and worries. It offers one the chance to socialize, be part of a group with the same interests and share in the excitement of the moment. Baseball is real life drama. Although many of the players are over-paid today, the nostalga keeps people's love burning for this sport.

I have season tickets to the Pirates. Here's why I love going to PNC Park. I have a wife of 17+ years and a four-year-old son. We go to the games and watch baseball, eat cheese fries, sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game, and generally enjoy life. We go to about 25 games per year. I know that it's going to be 25 times I get to sit and talk to my family and forget about everything else for about three hours. We love the excitement as a pitcher goes later and later in a game if he's got a no-hitter going. We love the instant excitement of a leadoff homerun. But most of all, we love each other and it's a great way to spend time together as a family.

In a word ; FUN ! They're a lot of fun. We went to an Oakland vs. Yankees game in April '06 and it was the funnest thing we ever did as a couple.

You get to yell, scream, cheer, boo, and jump around without having to worry about looking like a fool, since everyone else is doing it, too.

Plus, you get all your aggressions out in a fun ( & funny ) way so you don't take everything out on your poor hubby! Try it, you'll like it. : )

Well, i play basketball, so i watch it. I think it is the most pointless thing though. People Do the same with baseball. If you think it would be fun to play, you watch the pros, even though it is a pointless game.

My Dad used to take me to Tiger Stadium as a kid. I loved it. Baseball is as American as Mom and apple pie. God bless America.
