All 3 temperatures clean ...the difference is the type of clothes that need cleaning....Hot is best for whites, heavily soiled clothes, towels and sheets.Warm works well for most fabrics and colors, especially cotton and cotton blend fabrics. Cold works best for delicate fabrics, many polyester fabrics, and anything very brightly colored like red, cause in warmer temps the dyes may release and the garment becomes faded. This is more common in fabrics from other countries that do not use color fast dyes. Hope this helps.

Hot water is better for cleaning clothes because the hot water makes the fabric softer and loosens the dirt easier. It's especially good if the dirt is greasy. Hot water can damage some fabrics though so you better check the labels on the clothes. Most can take a warm water wash but delicates and cottons need cold water.

I've been doing laundry for almost 30 years and really can't tell the difference in cold water, warm water or hot water. I do like to wash sheets in hot water and all other fabrics I use cold water. Hopefully, I save money using cold because the hot water heater isn't heating more water.

It all depends on the laundry, Raisins. For blood stains, hot will set the stain permanently. Use cold water and a product like ERA detergent or TIDE. For most laundry that is just worn and not stained, like blouses, t-shirts and towels, cold is best. For jeans that have grass stains etc. warm and for whites warm or hot keeps them white.I am the queen of getting stains out of stuff. Ask again if there are any specifics I can help with.

Fabrics are all different blends of various textiles.
To get the best results, read the tag on the inside of the garment and follow the directions. Some say use hot water, some say use cold, some say dry clean.
When in doubt, read the directions.

Colors, darks and anything delicate or shrinkable in cold, whites in warm, and towels/ sheets in hot. Use powder detergent with hot and warm water, but liquid detergent with cold water, because sometimes powder detergent doesn't desolve in cold water.
