Mink oil... It stinks but its the best for softening and for protection of the leather for the life of the mitt... Shaveing cream is good, but not as good as mink...

Put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 150 degrees. Right when you pull it out put it on your hand and play catch and work the pocket. Then put a ball in the pocket and wrap it with a shoelace and put it under your mattress and leave it there over night. The next day rub it down with glove oil.

Men's shaving cream......
Rub it in your glove, stick a ball in the pocket, tie something around it ( string whatever) and leave it over night. Softens the leather and also water proofs it.

This is not a joke. I am being very serious.
When I was in the sixth grade, the boys in my class would bring their new baseball gloves to school and let our large (kinda fat) teacher sit on them. It worked.

put a baseball in the pocket, tie it up, and dunk it in a tub. take it out, let it dry for a few days. then you use a conditioner and/or oil to soften it up even more.
