1) they just plain dislike it
2)the STEREOTYPES like 'Rednecks' and 'uneducated'

5)It's not 'hip' or 'cool'...in other words, not the latest FAD
6)Not smart enough to really learn about it, what goes on before, during, and after a race, how the cars are built and prepped for races, where the racetracks are(NOT ALL IN THE SOUTH!)and where the drivers and fans live(Again, not ALL IN THE SOUTH!)

they don't understand it. they don't understand how the different degreed angles of banking, textures of tracks, height of the walls, width of the tracks, weather, length of the straight aways, what degree of turns, shape of turns, etc....affect the race. they don't understand how wedge, track bar, tire pressure, fuel mileage affect the performance and outcome of a race, they don't understand all the work and intelligence that goes into this sport.they don't understand that "rednecks" can't afford this sport!! it is very expensive to enjoy a race weekend properly!! i guess if i knew nothing about nascar i would just see a bunch of left turns, too, bet these people don't even know that racing in the u.s. is left turns because the driver sits on the left side of the car this way and the right, not left side is exposed to the wall, minimizing the likelihood of serious injury should there be car/wall contact. as far as the circles thing, bristol is the closest thing to that, affectionately known as a donut. most are ovals, paperclips, triangle, D shaped, roadcourse, etc...i think because of their lack of education in our sport they are not capable of respecting it as we do.

I am the opposite of all those stereotypes!!

1. I love the sport
2. I'm a college student and am not a redneck (plus I'm a bi-racial person who likes the sport...I'm a rare find it seems compared to most nascar fans
3. The whole "turn left" thing is just how the sport works (except road courses)
4. My friends don't like it. But who cares??! Some of my friends have no sense about what's cool, anyway!!
5. I don't care if people might not think it's cool...I think for myself!
6. I have learned a lot about the sport by watching driver interviews, watching races, and reading books
7. I live in the Northeast

The bottom line is, you are either simple minded or open minded. Simple minded people believe stereotypes. Open minded people can make up their own minds about things!

If people don't understand the rules or strategies (setups, pit stops, types of tracks, etc), they won't watch it. And if they don't watch it, they won't develop that "fandom" and have a favorite driver (which is really what keeps them watching week after week).
