"Dude, you know what should be your theme song from now on? 'Headbutts,' by John Otway. Hell, with a theme like that, you should return to the field for just one more year."

Zidane: So Much For Idolatry
The FIFA World Cup 2006 is already over. The winner: Italy,

The best player : ....Zidane (?)

This news makes me speechless..

How come such title awarded to a player who had just headbutt another player?

Headbutting Materazzi is the least thing you need to have the award, Zidane, what's wrong with you?

I also don't believe such amazing player did such disgraceful thing in such big event!

This is not for the first time Zidane headbutting another player. The incident happened back in 2000 at Champion League. The victim was Jorge Keintz.

Zidane is already known by his hot temper. Backenbauer even said, Zidane wouldn't do such thing if not been harshly provoked. Well, I can't blame Zidane, we never knew what Marco Materazzi said to Zidane. But still, if you have problem with other player, you should finish it out of the field after the game, not when the game is still on.

But the blame is on the panelist who voted Zidane as best player. and also FIFA who let the decission justified,

Didn't FIFA think about the impact would be on the next generation?

FIFA was shaping the next generation's mind that it's ok headbutting someone's chest as long you have great skill on playing football

How will you explain to a child who watched the game and heard the news?

The same question came from French Sports Daily L 'Equipe,

"This morning, Zinedine, what do we tell our children, and all those for whom you were the living role model for all times?"

I think FIFA should take its moto "Fair Play" off

By letting the golden ball to Zidane, FIFA already decieved its own principles!

Headbutting someone's chest while the game is still played is a definite MISTAKE!

FIFA has to do something with this incident!

Or may be...just maybe,

People are already fall in love with ZIdane,so much they easily forget and forgive what he did and eagerly wants he gets the prize whatever it takes. The expectation is too much to Zidane, so that when he did wrong, people refuse the fact that he is too an ordinary human being.

It once again proves that idolatry can make you blind.

Idolatry can make you live without your principles and laws.

Idolatry can make you commiting a wrong decission without even thinking about the consequences

Idolatry can make you commiting a wrong attitude without even thinking how it will impact others.

That also makes me think why GOD hates idolatry so much.

HE knows well the danger of idolatry.

There is only one reason why Zidane still deserves his best player title, that is

the fact that he is really a genious!

He knew well that when all eyes were on other field's side (most of the players', linesmen's, and referee's) and when your target was off his guard, THAT IS the right time to headbutt his chest...

BANNGGGG!!!!!!

It is a shame what you did in the last game of your career. You should have been more experienced and not answer to comments made by other players. If Marco Materazzi really insulted you, you can insult him back verbally without using force. We are human beings not animals here and the world cup is about Fair Play and respect. It is a shame that you won the Golden Ball award after what you did. You are a good player and respected among fans, but the action that you took against Materazzi was a very bad decision and you must be punished for that.

It is amazing that Fifa did not punish Zidane, but instead gave him an award, while DeRossi was fined after hitting the American player with his elbow. Fifa must not be tolerant with Zidane's action, they should punish him for that, or Materazzi must sue or ask for an apology because Zidane used force against him in public and it was seen by billions around the world.

Zidane is one of the most exciting players to watch play the game of soccer and without a doubt the world knows he loves the game of soccer. I dont think Zidane would deliberately head-butt an opponent without some sort of provocation. I dont know what the Italian player said but whatever he said he probably deserved the actions from Zidane

No matter Matte-whoever said whatever to him- he is Zidane. He shouldn't have forgotten that. I always admired Zidane as the greatest footballer of this generation, on the other hand I have never even heard of Materazzi till the finals. Matterazzi should not have gone unpunished. But, Zidane could have and should have slapped that guy only after the games. But, no matter what he will always be remembered for all that he gave to football and I will certainly not forget Matterazzi for being the awful man that he is.

I would have done the same thing if someone talked about my family.I am sorry he was disgraced he doesn't deserve it. His opponent should be punished just as well if that's the case. Zidane deserves to keep his awards too. He's human and let his love for his family and his feelings get in the way of the game. It also should not have cost the game.
You go Zidane!

I don't know what Materrazzi had said to Zidane that provoked him so much but I think it was something big that Zidane couldn't wait for 2 minutes from the last game of his career, to get even with him, so I think Zidane did the right thing by headbutting Materrazzi.

WAY TO GO ZIDANE, GREAT MOVE, YOU MADE US WHOM WERE WATCHING YOU IN THE REST. STAND UP AND CHEER FOR YOU

Zidane's attack was justified. He was in a high intensity situation and the guy had manhandled him. If someone was holding me like that, I'd have been pissed too. Knowing how hard he worked and what was at stake, a moment of weakness could be understandable. He got a nice hit on him. I think Zidane is not disgraced. Quite the opposite.

That was very immature...you as a captain of the national team should be more responsible and represent a role model for the rest.. its not just some soccer game...its the World Cup championship. I was not expecting that from Zidane, what a sad, still memorable way to leave the sport you are so amazing at. last soccer game ever....ended with a red card and a loss, didn't get a chance to even get rewarded. Very Unprofessional
He is the Best soccer player ever though!!! you gotta give him credit for his skills

Zidane, your skills are in the same league as Pele and Maradonna. The real soccer fans of the world will always admire and remember this. Any serious athlete knows that one has to be very competitive, and sometimes this passion can spill over into aggression. We know that you regret the head butt and that is enough for us.
After the final I bought my 4 year old son his first football uniform and boots, and his shirt says "Zidane". Now you must teach the youngsters.
