Absolutely Not !!
All the people of the world know Italians as great thieves,
I myself never expect to see or hear anything true from them and
always keep my bag firm when I'm near to them!!

No !, Italians as ever are conjuror and tricky , as in other aspects in their lives, they always play tricks!! , I'm sure Marco Materazzi' words ,were just to make Zeidane's out of temper and to take him out.
With Zeidane they could do nothing.
Shame on Italy, Shame on its team to win in such a DIRTY way.
and in such a poor way, they shouldn't be happy cause they have showed to the world how tricky they are.
Shame on them.

Absolutely Not.
Italy has had the easiest ride the the Cup. They faced teams that offered little to no challlenge, and teams that turned out to be disapointments. This doesn't justify my answer however.
They didn't deserve the Cup because of a few major reasons. Just as Juventus, Referees appeared to be completely on their side. Back in the match vs. Australia, Totti had dove into the box creating a penalty that was an obvious miscall, resulting in the Italian team advancing. This was the deciding factor in the Semi-Final, where Germany was cheated of a clear penalty shot, that would have changed the whole prospect of the game. And in this Final, what Zidane had done was unacceptable, however provoked by Materazzi. This may not have made a difference in the end, but what did was the No-call on the foul on Malouda in the 16 yard Goalkeeper box. A penalty should have been made, which Zizou would have capitalized without question, eventually leading to what should have been France's victory. They played better than Italy in the second half, and extra time, but because of a few crucial mis-calls, Zizou has a blemish in a fantastic career for his county.

Italy absolutely deserved the Cup. Everyone is mentioning their game vs. Australia - well Australia was given an unfair man advantage for half the game on an absolutely terrible red card, and they still couldn't score! If Italy had been able to play with 11 men all game they would have beaten Australia easily without needing the final penalty. As for that final penalty, the Australian defender made a huge mistake trying to tackle Grosso and missing, so he paid the price. It was a foul and the far better team (Italy) won. Get over it.

Italy played solid soccer all tournament long. They beat great teams in Ghana and Czechoslovakia in group play, then outplayed Australia, dominated Ukraine, outplayed Germany, and beat France. Italy outplayed France in the 1st half and France outplayed Italy in the 2nd half and OT, but when Zidane did that stupid headbutt then Italy became the more deserving team.

Anyone saying Argentina or Germany deserved it more - hello! Argentina couldn't beat Germany, Italy did. Italy was better than both teams! And they were better than France. They were the most consistent team in the tournament, and only an own-goal and ridiculous dive penalty kick scored on them. The best team in the tournament won it. Forza Italia!

Once upon a time.....Italy was my team. After this world cup I truely hope that Italy will never see another world cup win ever due to the fact that their win is based on dirty game they played. They were weak and desperate and they played their dirty tricks. Performance wise, they did ok in the first 25 min of the game, but that because they worked liek crazy to try scoring that goal by running back and forth from defence to offense...and that is ok...but they could not coupe with a much better organized french team that dominated the game the rest of the time. The guy that was head butted was chosen purposely and was not an accident to insult Zidane.....he was doing it the whole game. Everyone keep saying that Zidane lost his cool in a matter of seconds ...etc true he should not have fell in the trap, but that loser was provoking him the entire 110 minues and Zidane tolerated that more than usual knowing he has a temper about insults against his family or origin. So, back to the point.....France will always be the true winner in my eyes and many others and Italy win was nothing but a coward win.

Oh.....and thank you Barca Fan "above" you are so right....Italy won by luck to Australia who smashed them...they could win to USA....so....................they know they got it by luck.........France took the hardest battle through Brazil, Spain, and Portugal. Ita only won against Germany...that is it They should have been kicked out in original group games.

Well, Italy did reach the finals by winning all its previous matches, but they didn't play the Italian style in their final game, everyone agrees that France had played lot better, stronger and more organized than them.

Do they deserve it?? Well, ya, but would have they got this cup if Zidane wasn't kicked out, that's a whole different story.

I noticed that the Italian team had focused a lot on Zidane, they injured him when he asked to be replaced, then I don't know what the hell Metrrazi had said to Zidane that he lost it,

Basic line, Italy would never have won if Zidane was there in the PSO.

In my opinion, winning the cup doesn't mean that the team was more skillful than others. Keep in mind that there is always an element involved, which is "LUCK". This year, although Italian team did play pretty well, many people do agree that the French team should have won since they really performed better than Italian team in yesterday's game. The way the Italian team did to French was too nasty that even though they won, it did not represent anything. After watching the world cup these days, I can come up with a conclusion: "The cup is all meaningless, it doesn't represent fairness, skills, or integrity." Therefore, the questions of "do you think Italy was deserved to win the cup?" is not really meaningful anymore.

No, I think Italy shouldn't deserve to win the world cup like this way. It very shameful to the world of how they play on Sunday cup. The Italy players tried to do everything to provoke the France players, especially Zidane. The whole world can see that incident, because of the insulted, and provocative words by the mafia (Matarazzi). I'm glad that Zidane knock the sob-Italian player down, because he's could not take it any more. Shamed Italy and very bad sportsmanship to the society and the rest of the world as well.

YYYYYEEEEEESSSSS

Italy rightfully won because they had the best team man per man as decided by the FIFA world cup dream team as 7 itlaians were on the team as compared to the next highest country having 4 players on the dream team.

They had the best defence of the whole tournament bar none.... only goal scored were an own goal and a penalty shot (wich is a freebie) ... but absolutly none in live play time by a member of the opposite team.

Although the italians played better than the French in the first half and the French played better than the Italians in the second half .. at least Italy got thier goal in real time play .. not one from a questionable penalty kick (from a questionable penalty that was not ever a real life goal scoring threat).

Also they beat the 2nd best team of the tournament in my opinion which i would say would be the Germans. (no disrespect to the mighty French) But to me this was the real finals.

And in comment to what some people say that italy had an easy route to the finals via Ukraine and Australia, what about them winning the group of death that involved the Fifa 2nd rank team (Czech) and the Fifa 5th rank (USA) and Ghana.. the best of the Africans who advanced to the final 16.

yes i think italy deserved the world cup they showed team spirit and showed how team performance can pay off wiothout relyin on 1 man like france did. italy have scored 12 goals and they were by 10 different players showing that they play as a team. you say zidane has never bin violent over 12 years well he has this would be the third time, atleast once when playing for juventus and the second wen playin for france against iran when he stamped on a player n now this is the third. zidane is a quality player but has violent outbursts which put his team in jeopordy so france should blame zizou. FORZA ITALIA and i hope next world cup we will show u again how our team will perform

Yes, Italy deserves the World Cup. They came in first place out of the toughest group in round 1 convincingly beating number 2 ranked Czech Republic and an impressive Ghana team. They highlighted the quality of the US team in a very dramatic draw. Beat the Ukranians and dominated Germany convincingly too. The incident with Zidane was unfortunate but you can't blame the Italians for what he did and you can't take the World Cup away from them either...maybe in your mind. By the way, just to document your little knowledge about Zidane who is my favorite player, he did butthead a player from Hamburg in a 2001 match against Juventus where he played at that moment. He was red carded too for headbutting the German in the face. Zidane may be the greatest soccer player in the world, but he is human too and Italy is the World Champion!!

It was a good cup .
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport3/worldcup2002/specials/html/wallchart/default1.stm

Last year out of 6 matches of semi and quarter finals , 4 resulted in 1-0 and one draw.

Yes they did .

Even if Zidane was in , the Italians were still controlling the game.
Besides this is not the first time i see Zidane arguing with other players in this world cup , i think something similar with no violence happened against Spain or Brazil

Probably Zidane is not likeable or he starts creating the probelms

The game was gonna go to penalties anyway and Italy would still have won 5-4 .
