if they treat it right away it will break down the stones and let them pass, or they may remove the gall bladder

My younger sister had her gall bladder taken out recently. She said it was very painful and most of the symptoms you described she had.
No worries, Its not very likely your father will die. He is in the hospital..if it is gallstones they will do a surgery where they make three or four little incisions in the abdomen, they put a little camera inside...pull out the gallstones if they are big and then pull the empty gallbladder they cut remove and tape everything...with very few disolvable stitches..... they do everything so neatly and quickly..
When the surgery is over he will never even notice that its gone. You can eat fat same as before but htey do warn you to go easy at first since you might get the runs.
The laproscopy surgery uses small cuts so there is less of a chance of infection..and it takes about 2-3 hours. They sent my sis home the next day after an overnight observation..with lots of nice pain drugs..and she was up and about in a week or so. They will do a follow up the next week and remove the tape.
Gallstones are apparently very common. The surgery is something that is often routine.

It could be kidney stones.
Stay calm, he's in the hospital and they'll find out what it is.
A gall bladder problem like any medical problem has specific treatments and remedies that have been treied and tested for years.
Talk to the primary physician and ask a lot of questions. Don't say you understand if you don't and don't expect the doctor to have ALL of the answers at once.
Most Doctors are pretty good about keeping the family informed, but you have to be in control of your emotions. I know it's tough 'cause it's your Dad, but for that very reason you need to stay calm.
There's a site called WebMD that can answer a lot of your questions. God speed and I'll say a little prayer for you and your Pop

Well I had my Gaulbladder taken out back in 95',it hurt sooooo bad at times that it would have me doubled over and it felt like I couldn't breath, but I ended up having it removed and I feel a lot better!! The doctor thought it was my liver at first, because my skin had a yellow tint to it!!! Talk to the doctor, they will run some tests and find out for sure!!!

Im not sure if it could be anything else but my mom had her's removed a few years ago and she is doing fine. You can live a normal life without one. So if that is what the doctors think is wrong then he will probably have it removed. Try not to worry I wish ur father the best and hope he feels better.

I have had my gallbladder out and the attach hurts very much. They usually do a scan to see if he has any stones and if he does they usually do surgery. If he doesn't then it was a gallbladder attack and he will have to adjust his diet a bit. He will have to cut down on the greasy foods. The surgery really isn't that bad. They can do it laproscopy which is 4 holes and recovery times is short. The only problems that affected me were up to months I would have brown very gresy stools. Sorry I know that sounds gross. But otherwise you don't need one to live.

The gall bladder stores bile which is produced in the liver and used to help digestion. It's not exactly a major organ and I'm sure modern medicine has a perfectly good way of making it so you can survive without it. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

He will be fine. He probably has gallstones and they will remove them with keyhole surgery. It's a very simple and common procedure. Gallstones are painful, but with medical attention, nothing too serious. Don't worry.

I doubt that he could die.
Gallbladder disease is very common in overweight people. I know I was there once. Removal of the gallbadder is a very simple operation and recovery is short.

Gallblatters when they act up are horrible!!!! But even if surgery is needed it is very simple and NO threat to his life. (I had mine out 2yrs ago, and the surgery didn't even screw up my full-chest tatoo).
Only thing now is he needs to eat a low fat diet or he'll feel the same pain alover again!
