I personally think that should be upto the one who is pregnant. After all she is a vessel of the child. I do not believe government nor law should have anything to say about it.

Personally, I oppose it. But I also think the decision should be made by the individual in consultation with her doctor. Not by some group of politicians.

The thing about the abortion debate is that the two sides are arguing entirely unrelated issues. Pro-life people say "abortion is bad". Pro-choice advocates say "The government should be making personal decisions that like". It's not about abortion. It's about who gets to make the decisions. The question distills down to this: someone is going to choose.

It's either going to be the individual, or it's going to be the majority (through enacted laws). If the majority gets to choose, then they are effectively imposing their belief system -- which is almost always religiously-based -- on everyone.

So, my opinion doesn't really count. Nor should anyone else's. The issue is not whether abortion is good or not as an abstract concept. The question should always be whether it is a valid decision or not for an individual given that individual's unique circumstances.

And that's not a decision that politicians can ever rationally make in advance.

I am against abortion. I however, cannot speak for the rest of the country. We must consider that abortion is an option that can enacted by the mother of the child. However it does involve the killing of another life. We also must consider the fact that even though it involves the killing of another life we must consider the fact that the life taken is not aware of the operation, only the spirit is. It can also be disputed that it is unlawful to take the life of such a person who has no say in the matter, but at the time of the decision we must remember that the mother is completely responsible for anything, harm or good done to the fetus. So ethically it is wrong but, legally it is not unlawful.

I honestly feel that abortion is imoral for the simple fact that a inocent baby can not decide to be born or not and did you know that a baby has a heart beat as early as 7 weeks of gestation and can feel pain at 11 weeks that isn't even 3 months. And it all depends on if it puts the mother in danger to gove birth everybody has a diffrent opinion. But this is mine

First , I think it is between you and God. Second ,I think it is between you ,the female, and the father. If you both disagree ,then take the situation to both families ,then to the church ,then to the courts (if not resolved ...in that order.
The father is part of the'situation/problem ,then he should be part of the solution. The couple should have discussed befoehand whether' they' wanted a child or not. If not ,then you should've been using protection. If you were and it failed, then ,go back to the first two sentences. If one of you stopped using protection without consulting the other one ,thenthey should not get the choice ,the other one should ,ie. if the girl got pregnant on purpose ,or if the guy was not using a condom because he was just to 'horny'-you play you pay. There lots of things to concider. If he wants the baby and she doesn't ,and it wasn't just his fault -being negligent to use a condom, then she should have the child and give it to him ....depending on maturity ,upbringing etc.

Continuing from DT's comment, there is a great book called Freakonomics which discusses this concept.

People should always be allowed the choice to have an abortion. If you are against abortion, fair enough, no one is going to force you to have one.

As previous answers have said, abortions will always occur (and have done so for centuries) whether it's legal or not.

You can watch the film Alfie (the original with Michael Caine) for a look at how nasty life was before legal abortion.

I think abortion is morally repulsive. That said, I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else what to do with their uterus. Its easy to sit on a pedestal and tell others what they should do with an unplanned pregnancy or that they shouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place, The reality is that pregnancy happens to people who find that pregnancy to be disastrous. The very young, the very poor, those who already have more children than they can handle. It would be nice if life was perfect and every pregnancy a joy full occurrence. Unfortunately that isn't the case.

I read what the others said, abortion isn't murder, it's only murder when it's formed and has a heart beat, if you abort when it's still an egg it isn't really murder. If you were to abort no one can tell you if you should abort or not all they can do is inform you and advise you, it's something only you can decide because if you regret it afterwards it was your decision no one else's.

I was going to abort because I'm only 16 but I didn't in the end. He was born 19 days ago. I'm glad I didn't because he's lovely and the sweetest thing I've ever seen I wouldn't change him for anything in the world!!

Abortion is wrong. It is killing another human being. Reguardless of them being attatched to the mother. It would be murder for a siamese twin to decide to kill their twin.

You have a choice when it comes to this. If you don't want a child then don't have sex. Oh, for those who will bring up rape - rape based abortions are only 1 out of 2000 or 1/2 of .1%. And there are familys willing to pay $50,000 to get a child. Any child.

Your rights stop when they infringe on someone elses rights. They have the right of Life, Liberty and The persuit of Happiness.

1) As far as a medical procedure goes, it should be as safe as can be.

2) If you make abortion illegal, abortions will still happen.

3) You reduce abortions by reducing the need for it with a comprehensive sex education rpogram.

4) It is a tragic waste that can be avoided most of the time (but not all of the time)

I think that this is a decision that should be left up to the parents involved. By this I mean the girl who is pregnant as well as the father of this baby. NOT the parents of the people involved. The ONLY EXCEPTION to this would be if the girl and boy involved were under 16.
