Well if it's removable, remove it and bleach the affected areas before rinsing with hot soapy water. Then replace. If you have to clean it in situ, suggest scrub the affected areas with bleach using an old toothbrush and then rinse with hot soapy water.

with the machine empty, pour bleach solution in the soap drawer and let it sit there for a while, scrub and rinse. Might as well run the machine for a cycle too w/o soap to clean the whole thing out

You must have a filthy washing machine. Why even bother washing anything? I have had washing machines and never had mold anywhere. Hard to imagine what you are doing to cause this unless the thing is left damp and closed up for months at a time.

Bleach will kill mold and you should know this. If you don't you have no business trying to use a washing machine. Use the creek instead.

If it's removeable, take it out & wash it with a mild bleach like Clorox Cleanup. If you don't want to use bleach, then use white vinegar & hot water. If the drawer doesn't come out, you can still use Clorox Cleanup or white vinegar & hot water to clean it. Use a stiff cleaning brush like the ones by Vileda that are blue & red. Make sure to rinse it well after cleaning to remove Clorox Cleanup or white vinegar smell. If smell still lingers, make a paste with Arm & Hammer baking soda & rub onto the drawer. Wipe or rinse off.

I had this problem and think it was caused by the type of clothes softener I used. Check to see how to remove the drawer and give it a good cleaning. Actually any type of cleaner you have will do. You have to check the drawer periodically after the first cleaning.

Then all should BE well!! OK? Good Luck!

ps. You can a buy a book called: "

Take the soap drawer out and put it in the dishwasher. If that does not get rid of it wipe it with mould and mildew cleaner, you can get it from hardware stores.

Pour in bleach and run a cycle with no clothes in it, just to disinfect the machine and kill the mold. Then, after you wash your clothes and the machine is empty, leave the lid up on the washing machine so the inside tub doesn't retain moisture and can fully dry out.
