Gothic Metal is a kind of music. It is basiclly a cross between black metal (an extreme form of heavy metal) and gothic rock (heavy industrial melodic rock). Typically gothic metal has themes of pain, torment, love, passion, religion, and battle. Typical themes are fallen angels, hopeless love, damned heroes, and eternal journeys.
Gothic metal is called gothic metal because of its accociation with heavy metal music and its origins in gothic rock. The term gothic actually relates the neo-gothic architecture of western europe which stylistically was a revival of the Goth and Visigoth tribes of central and eastern Europe in period towards the end of the Roman Empire.

Ian Astbury,the lead singer of the Cult was the first to coin the phrase Gothic or goth(1980's).Gothic Metal is just a variation of a theme.My Dad used to say that everything that you can think of has been done before,He also said if you can't sing it mumble it.I'm 42 now and after 30 years of listening to Music I'm beginning to agree.

Gothic Metal tends to have a darker sound and it's lyrics tend to contain words associated with the dark side, satan and 666 (the number of the beast).

I love Goth music it's not all depressing and some songs are beautiful, as for old castles i love them and it's one of my intrests.

its called Gothic because Goths like it DUH!!! I prefer Punk and Grunge though :)
