"Real" time travel, as described in science fiction
stories, is probably impossible. Even if it is
possible we will never have it on this world. The
evidence for this is that we are not swamped with
time travelers right now, which we would be if ever
someone on earth invented it.

According to the theory of relativity, it is possible to move forward in time. As you go faster, time (your time) slows down. So if you are traveling near the speed of light, one time period would be many time periods for others. In a long trip through space, you will return say a few years older, but earth will have moved forward many, many years.

The only catch to this is that you will never be able to go back and tell anyone what you did. The reverse (Backwards time travel) is not possible.

Backwards or forwards?

Actually you ARE travelling forward in time right now, at the rate of sixty seconds per minute. Going forward faster could be accomplished by time dilation, travelling close to the speed of light. As to going backwards... that requires theory we don't understand very well yet.

You don't need to do anything to travel in time. You are doing it right now. Forwards.

Look to the theory of relativity.

yes. we've found a few ways to create gravity and gravity can bend time according to the theory of relativity. The only problem is that none of these ways are powerful enough to create "time machine" affects.
