Initially, I thought that the Italians merely used verbal taunts to make Zidane lose his cool. Now, it has been proved that the abuse was actually physical, i.e. Materazzi piched his nipple & twisted it. Now, we all know that FIFA is supposedly a big supporter of professionalism in football & Fair Play. So, in this regard, the Italians should be STRIPPED OFF their title & a rematch should be held between the two sides, with Zidane back in the France side.

Do you support me?

I think verbal abuse is tolerable, but a physical abuse is just beyond it completely.

me a whiner? if the same happened to an Italian player, when a French player taunted him - then you would understand how I feel. Until then, up yours!

i completely understand your point. zidane has my complete sympathy and understanding and he was probably very frustrated with the way that the game was going. he shouldn't have stooped to his level though. he ended up evening out the playing field by retaliating. he kind of doomed the french team by what he did. a question though, are you sure that the italian player twisted his nipple. i just thought that he said a racial slur to him or something like that.

No and I don't know who would support you. As a matter of fact, Italy was denied a legitimate goal and they were unfairly treated by Henry's incredible acting during the first 5 minutes of the game and scored on in what SHOULDN'T have been a penalty kick... some MORE good acting seeing as the French player tripped over his own two feet with NO forceful contact by the Italian player. Seeing that France was given these MAJOR opportunities and STILL couldn't manage to monopolize... that is pretty embarrassing. And for such a great soccer legend to leave the field in such a disgraceful manner is also a great disappointment. I'd like to see where it was PROVED that the nipple twisting happened.... I don't think so.

Finally, if you're going to say something so childish... i.e: "the Italians should be STRIPPED OFF their title" you should make sure your English is correct. What you meant was, they should be stripped OF their title... BUT seeing as how you're all excited about nipple pinching, its not surprising that you would conveniently request that they strip them in any way. However, it is understandable since... not only are they world cup champions of 2006... they are also a very good looking bunch of boys. *wink*

I 100% agree! All the Italians did was made Zidane mad so he would get a red card! Zidane, a great penalty goal kicker couldn't kick for France AND Henry couldn't due to Fatigue. Also, if the ref didn't see the foul, I doesn't count! He can't just walk up to someone on the sideline and say did he do it! He was obviously an Italian fan. If Italy hadn't made Zidane lose his temper, the game would have been easily won by France.

I believe that Zidane was a complete idiot! I am sure that there are things you can say in every language that are really -and I mean REALLY- offensive. Clearly, that was the case with Materazzi's words. That is why Zidane should either walk away and kick Materazzi's *** after the game, or kick his *** hard, right there on the spot. I mean make him lose a nose and some teeth, not just give gim a little pain. Make him regret for this kind of dishonorable, filthy, low-life, dirty, unsportsman, gutter, ..........., ever-Italian manner.

Well, this match was called fair as best it could. They try to let the little stuff go, but the head-but whcih was away from the ball was uncalled for. Red-card all the way there. The verbal taunting was not cool, and i believe that player got yellow for it but the head-butt was just a stupid decision. Zidane only has himself to blame for ending his international career like that.

A rematch would not be legitimate at all, and would be bad for the sport. The referees called the match as best they could based on what they saw.

Keep in mind everyone that if there is no head-butt we would not be having this discussion.

Really? That's what happened?
Oh my gosh, Italy is lucky that Zidane didn't told on them, or else Materazzi would have got a red card too! What a cheater!!
I agree with you! FIFA should make a rematch of the finals!
I feel bad for Zidane =( and thanks for giving the answer of my question by giving details to your question =)

I totally agree. There should be a rematch. I mean France dominated the entire game. They were also major jerks for getting Zidane thrown out I mean they had to have said something really mean for a player at his level to do that.

Both verbal and physical abuse are intolerable. I hope FIFA reviews this incident in depth, beyond Zizou's actions. They need to look at what Materazzi said and did.

absolutely not! I think france has some dignity too... it was clearly zidane deserved the red card no matter the reason. even if zidane not sent off it was no guarantee that france will win. and italy didn't complained about the zidane's penalty even though it's unfair.

No. Zidane had nothing to do with France losing. It was all Trezuguezt's fault. What a horrible PK.... Zidane is a god and can headbutt anyone he wants deserving or not.
