Not everybody has space in their closet, not everybody has a closet full of clothes. Some people don't keep shoes in their closet, everybody has different fashion statements. So I would say, a bar. A bar which things can hang off. Everybody has a bar in their closet, or it ceases to be a closet.

kidding. Everyone should have an extra blanket or two. I always get cold and always need some blankets. So, I keep some in my closet and pull them out whenever I need one.
