I'm getting kind of tired of people talking about the incident between Zidane and Materazzi, so let's change subjects..
Honestly, in my opinion Buffon's performance during this last match was a bit... disappointing. For being called the "best goal keeper in the world" wouldn't you think he could have AT LEAST caught one (just one) penalty shot?
your thoughts...

I agree with 2 of the comments, Ricardo is by far better when dealing with penalty shots.
And yes, Buffon did save that one "almost goal" by Zidane, but come on! he was standing right in the middle, and the ball went right in the middle!
I do have to say though, what Buffon has on his favor, for the most part, is his looks. ♥ haha..
he's good, but not the "best in the world"..

Definitely the most expensive, but not the best. Lehmann is brilliant at saving pens, but is still prone to rushes of blood to the head (look at the Champions League final). Ricardo can save pens but his all round play isn't up to much. Casillas and Cech are up there, but the defenses they have in front of them for club and country are very different!

Yup.. I agree w/ you. To be called "the best GK in the world", he should have caught a penalty ball (at least one, as you said). But still, even I go w/ Zidane, that's header ball catch last nite is truly awesome. I must give Buffon a credit for that.
Anyway, for me, either Ricardo (Portugal) or Lehmann (Germany) deserves to be count for Best GK for this WC 2006.

I think Ricardo of Portugal and Gigi Buffon are the best goalkeepers in the world. Ricardo is better in stopping penalties.

NO WAY! Buffon is a buffoon! Italians just had luck on their side. He didnt save a single goal.
Best GK acc. to me -- Oliver Kahn., I'm SOOOo glad I got to see him play 1 more time and win!
As for penalty goals, Lehmann saved 2 - and even tho Oliver is my fave goalie, I have to admit that Lehmann IS specialized in Penalty shots - he saved TWO against Argentina, which is PHENOMINALLY difficult. I guess being that huge helps :-) And I also have to say that there was this little goalie who moved like the wind - forgotten which team - the goalie wore this green shirt - a minor team that didnt make it thru to 2nd round, and he seriously struggled for his team - even tho they lost in the end.

you are soo right ricardo from Portugal saved 2 penalties (i guess) and jens Lehmann saved an incredible 3 penalties from Argantinian players.
he sisn't look like " the best keeper in the world" such great titles sould be saved for the likes of olliver Kahn in the previous mondial

Yes...penalty shots are very very difficult to block. It more a matter of luck than skill or reaction time.
