I dont know about lime but we use a product called Sweet PDZ. It's made entirely from a mineral called zeolite. You put it over the urine spot and cover that with fresh shavings. It's non-toxic, all natural and environmentally friendly.

id say not in a stall. if you wanna clean up urine in a stall or barn like on cement, use dry pine shavings, like for hamsters. it will soak it up and help with the smell, especially if you use pine. the lime can react with the urine adn if you use it too often could cause respiratory problems. in nature horses eat things that have probably been peed on one time or another, so its safe for them to eat pee, but not really lime and pee. its just not natural.

its poisonous to the horse if he ingests a lot of it, but it is good to put down a thin layer before spreading straw or shavings on top of it. It prevents disease as well as mold in the stall. Most horse people i know use it every other day to every three days.

I use lime all the time. I put it on their pee spots but then I cover it up with dirt or shavings (whatever you use for bedding) so they can not inhale it. It would be like you sniffing or drinking bleach if they inhale it or eat it.
